Educational Mission

Kantonsschule Limmattal is a centre of education for the regions Knonauer Amt and Limmattal. It prepares its pupils for the Swiss Matriculation Certificate and for study at university and other institutions of higher education. Pupils enter the school either directly following Year 6 at primary school, or after completing the second year of secondary school.

The school offers a two-year programme (Years 7-8), in which all students are taught according to the same curriculum, as well as a so-called short grammar school programme (Years 9-12). In Years 7-8 French is compulsory as a second national language as are English and Latin as additional foreign languages. Starting in Year 9, all students, including those entering the school from secondary school, choose a matriculation pathway. These pathways differ in the major subjects taken. The school offers the following subjects as majors: Latin, Greek, French, Italian, English and Spanish within the Classical or Modern Languages Pathway, Biology and Chemistry or Applied Mathematics and Physics within the Applied Mathematics/ Science Pathway, Art or Music within the Art Pathway, and Economics or Law within the Economics and Law Pathway.
